Jean Baptist de St. Ours, Sieur Deschaillons

Jean Baptist de St. Ours, Sieur Deschaillons was born in 1670. On November 25, 1705, he married Marguerite La Guardeur.

St. Ours was a career military man who saw many battles -- and seemed to prefer front lines action to settlement administration. He fought against the British in July of 1708. In 1709, he fought against the Fox warriors who attacked Detroit and Mackinac.

In 1719, St. Ours was made commandant of Michilimackinac. He left that position after only one year (approximately).

St. Ours was made commandant of fort Ponchartrain in 1730. He is said to have improved conditions there before giving up the post in 1733 in search of further military action.

St. Ours died in Quebec on June 9, 1747.
