Marie Therese Guyon

Marie Therese Guyon was born in Quebec in 1671 to Denis and Elizabeth (Boucher) Guyon. On June 25, 1687, she married Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac. The couple lived in Port Royal, Acadia (now Nova Scotia) for a short time when, in 1689, Cadillac was sent to Paris to help the court plan an attack against the British in New England.

In 1690, While Cadillac was away, Port Royal was the site of French and British fighting. Marie took her young daughter (Focus on Michigan Women says the child was a boy, but no records indicate a son born before 1692) and fled to Montreal. They were captured along the way, but managed to escape and arrived at her family home in Quebec. In the meantime, Cadillac was given command of Fort Buade.

In 1701, Marie received word that Cadillac and his party had landed in le detroit (the straits) and that she could now set off to join them. She and Mde. de Tonty, the wife of Cadillac's lieutenant, travelled to the new settlement together, along with Marie's nine year old son, Antoine. They left Quebec in Setpember of 1701 and arrived in Detroit in May of 1702.

While at Fort Ponchartrain, the Cadillacs had 6 or 7 (the location of the birth of their youngest child is unknown) more children, for a total of 13.

Marie died in France in 1740, ten years after Cadillac.
